Second Half Goals Too Much For Soccer Men

Box Score

The EMU soccer men fell to nonconference opponent Berry on Saturday afternoon by a score of 2-0. The Royals were playing in their second of two games in Sewanee, Tenn. this weekend as part of the Kyle Rote, Jr. Invitational.

The Royals played a strong first half holding the Vikings scoreless. Berry eventually found the scoreboard in the 59th minute when Jake Williamson scored an unassisted goal. They would go on to add a second goal in the 67th minute on a second goal by Williamson.

EMU was unable to find a goal despite a few scoring chances by Leiyan Kariuki (Nairobi, Kenya/St. Patricks) and Juan Vazquez (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) in the first half and Gabe Nafziger (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle) hitting the crossbar in the second half. Ahmed Zaatar (Barboursville, Va./William Monroe) had six saves in net.

Royals return home for their next match on Wednesday, September 11 when they host Hood at 7:00pm.
