Box Score

EMU's volleyball men took care of business Wednesday night, sweeping past Southern Virginia University in CVC action in Harrisonburg. The Royals improve to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the Continental Volleyball Conference.

They head to Pennsylvania this weekend, playing five matches over three days in three different locations. The stretch starts with a conference match at Neumann Friday night, followed by two at Cairn University on Saturday and two more at Arcadia on Sunday.

Southern Virginia scored the first point of the night on Wednesday, gifted by an EMU attack error. That turned out to be the only lead of the entire match for the Knights. The Royals scored the next three points before adding a 6-0 spurt for a 9-2 lead. SVU got within 19-17 before the men closed out a 25-18 opener.

Tough serving from William Ragland (North Chesterfield, Va./Thomas Dale) set the tone in the second, when the Royals rattled off the first seven points. EMU kept the slight edge until a 25-22 finish.

A 6-1 run early in the third gave the Royals a 10-5 lead. The five-point margin held to the end as Tim Callahan (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Ragland landed kills to close out a 25-20 win.

The men improved their attack each set, finally hitting .333 in the third. Ragland landed nine kills to lead a balanced effort and Lutz added eight.
