Box Score The EMU field hockey women lost 9-0 to University of Lynchburg Monday night in Harrisonburg. With the loss the Royals fall to 6-8 overall and 0-4 in conference play as the Hornets improve to 9-5 and 4-0.
Lynchburg started out the game quickly scoring in the 4th minute of the game on a goal by Kayla Copeman. Nikki Simpao quickly made the score 3-0 when she scored back-to-back goals in the 12th and 18th minute.
The Hornets jumped to a 4-0 lead after a goal by Jackie Lerro in the 19th minute. Simpao completed her hat trick in the 28th minute to make it 5-0. Maggie Chiappazzi bumped the score 6-0 in the 33rd minute.
Simpao would go on to score in the 54th and 55th minutes of the game to make it 8-0. Chiappazzi would cap the scoring in the 60th minute to make the score 9-0.
The Royals did have chances to score on shots by Skylar Hedgepeth (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) who tried to stuff the ball in the corner in the 61st minute, but was stopped by the Lynchburg goalkeeper.
The Hornets outshot EMU 37-10 and 26-6 on goal. Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had 11 saves in the cage for the Royals.
Hedgepeth led the Royals with four shots. Casey Webb (Hampton, Va./Bethel) had three defensive saves for EMU, while Brandy Troutman (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) had two and Clover Cooper (Barboursville, Va./Orange County) had one.
Next up for the Royals is a 4:00pm match on Wednesday as they head up to Shenandoah.
