ODAC Slate Ends With Two Losses At Roanoke

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

EMU's softball women missed out on a chance to move up in the ODAC standings on Saturday, dropping a couple of low-scoring games at Roanoke College.

The women wrap up conference play with a mark of 9-11, and are likely locked into the No. 7 seed in the eight-team ODAC Tournament, which is April 28-30 in Salem. Now 21-13 overall, Eastern Mennonite wraps up the regular season on Wednesday, playing two at No. 7 Messiah in Grantham, Pa.

Roanoke 4, EMU 0
The Royals had plenty of chances in the opener, getting at least one runner on base in each inning. But the women also hit into three double plays, including a painfully fitting ending to the game of a line drive double play.

Roanoke (23-13/11-7 ODAC) had fewer opportunities, but bunched three of their hits together in the fifth inning where they scored all four of their runs. Three of the scores came with two outs, including a two-run triple.

Beck Hoskins (Danville, Va./Westover Christian Academy) batted 2-3 out of the leadoff spot. Sydney Reath (Chambersburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) added a single and a walk.

Lauren Seale (Madison, Va./Madison County) pitched a complete game and slid to 8-6 with the loss.

Roanoke 4, EMU 1
The Royals earned their first run and first lead of the day in the third inning of the second game. Cassidey Chrisman (Staunton, Va./Riverheads) led off with a double and was replaced by pinch runner Dallas Crawford (Front Royal, Va./Warren County). After a sacrifice moved Crawford to third, Alexa Sheets (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) stuck a two-out single up the middle to bring her in.

Roanoke used a two-out rally to tie it in the bottom of the frame, with the lone run scoring from second on an error.

The score remained locked at 1-1 until the bottom of the fifth, when a leadoff double triggered a three-run rally for the Maroons.

Seale earned a two-out walk in the sixth for EMU's lone baserunner over the final two innings.

The women scratched out just four hits in the contest, with Hoskins getting another two.

Reath started in the circle and fell to 10-5 by giving up all four runs in 4.2 innings. Seale struck out two in 1.1 of relief.
