Box Score EMU's volleyball men swept past CVC rival Cairn University Friday night, improving to 4-0 in the conference with their fourth straight win. Ranked No. 9 in the most recent AVCA national poll, Eastern Mennonite is 10-4 on the year.
The men return to the court for two more matches on Saturday, hosting Rutgers-Newark at 11:00am and Bard College at 3:00pm.
Setting the tone early, EMU jumped to a 9-3 lead against Cairn (2-16/0-4 CVC). The Highlanders got within one point before the men ran away, 25-16. A 7-0 run gave the Royals all the momentum they needed in the second, winning 25-11. Working a few more bench players on the floor in the third, EMU held a small margin much of the way and won, 25-20.
Getting a two-pronged attack, the Royals hit .299 as a team. Josh Elmore (Chester, Va./Matoaca) landed 15 kills followed closely by 14 from William Ragland (North Chesterfield, Va./Thomas Dale). Christian Taylor (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) put up 32 assists.
Micah Buller (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) had a match high 13 digs. Tim Callahan (Harrisburg, Va./Central Dauphin) landed the only two service aces of the match.
Andy Willits had 10 kills for Cairn.
