Box Score ODAC play did not go EMU's way this season.
The field hockey team wrapped up their conference slate Wednesday night, dropping a 3-0 decision to Shenandoah in Harrisonburg. The loss leaves the Royals 0-7 in the ODAC. Eastern Mennonite plays four non-conference games to wrap up the season, starting Friday afternoon with their home finale against Concordia (Wisc.). The Royals are 3-3 in non-conference games.
Shenandoah and EMU played even for most of the first half until the Hornets got on the board in the 31st minute on a rebounded goal from Megan Stevens.
The Royals responded with a rally, including their first shot on goal from Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite). After earning a corner, Lauren Hartzler (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) had back-to-back shots blocked, as SU held on to the shutout.
The Hornets made some space after halftime. Morgan Payne had a weak side tap-in in the 55th and Whitney Ross scored in the 65th on another flurry in front of the goal.
Eastern Mennonite made another charge in the final minute, earning a pair of corners and four shots, but SU's back line held.
The Hornets finished with a 34-7 shot advantage. Goalie Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) showed a lot of poise once again, making 16 saves on 19 shots on goal for a solid .842 save percentage.
Augsburger attempted EMU's only shots on goal. Hartzler and Clover Cooper (Barboursville, Va./Orange County) each added three attempts.
