Box Score 2 A big six-run inning got EMU rolling in game one of a doubleheader sweep at Mary Washington Friday afternoon. The softball women improved to 13-5 with the non-conference wins in Fredericksburg, Va.
Eastern Mennonite has another rescheduled, non-conference twinbill up next, heading to No. 3 Christopher Newport Monday afternoon at 3:00pm.

Fireworks abounded in the opener, as the Eagles scored three times in the bottom of the first and still led 5-3 heading into the fourth.
Danyele Smith (Broadway, Va./Broadway) started the frame with a triple and a seven-hit inning followed. Alexa Sheets (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) hit an RBI single to tie up the score at 5-5, and after two outs Angelia Miller (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) cranked a bases loaded double to clear the bases and give the women their first lead. Carli Hill (Staunton, Va./Fort Defiance) added an RBI double to make it 9-5.
Mary Washington got to relief pitcher Sydney Reath (Chambersburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) twice in the fifth and once more in the sixth to draw within 9-8, but the freshman threw a 1-2-3 seventh to secure the win.
Hill paced an 11-hit attack by going 3-4 with two RBIs and a run. Miller finished 1-2 with two walks and four big RBIs. Reath and Sheets each had a pair of hits.
Lauren Seale (Madison, Va./Madison County) started in the circle and gave up five runs in 2.1 frames before getting chased. Reath allowed three over 4.2 innings and got the win to go to 6-3.
EMU 8, Mary Washington 0 – 6 innings
The offense carried over into game two, smacking 12 hits, while pitcher Janna Williams (Kenbridge, Va./Kenston Forest) threw a one-hit gem. She allowed an infield single in the third and committed an error in the sixth for the only other base runner.
Hill brought in the first run with a single in the third, and Miller later added a two-run, two-out hit to make it 3-0. The hits kept coming as the Royals scored two more it the fifth and plated three in the sixth to trigger the mercy rule.
Tiffani Shaheen (Fluvanna, Va./Fluvanna County) batted 2-3 with a walk, scoring three times and driving in one more. Sheets, Miller and Mariah Foltz (Broadway, Va./Broadway) each had two hits as well.
Williams improved to 3-0, winning each of her three starts this season. The sophomore has allowed just one earned run in 18.0 innings.
