Box Score The field hockey women succumbed to high-powered Washington and Lee Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va. Taylor Hensley mustered Eastern Mennonite's only goal in a 6-1 ODAC loss.
The Royals slide to 5-9 on the year and 0-5 in the ODAC, while W&L improves to 10-5 and 5-1 ODAC.
Utilizing a 17-shot attack in each half, the Generals scored four times before intermission, including the final one on a penalty corner after time had expired.
Taylor Hensley (Orange, Va./Orange County) scored her second goal of the season on a tip-in in the 49th minute, knocking in a pass from Courtney Ray (Yorktown, Va./Yorktown), but the Royals couldn't mount another counterattack in the loss.
EMU was held to five shot attempts in the game, although all five were on goal. Julie Burkhardt (Perkasie, Pa./PA Cyber) attempted a team high two shots. Along with Hensley's goal, Lorraine Armstrong (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) and Emily Price (Hampton, Va./Homeschool) each had one shot.
Hannah Daley (Lothian, Md./Southern) set a new career high with 17 saves between the pipes. Jessica Conner (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) picked up her second defensive saves in as many games.
After a short rest, the Royals play two games in two days, and hope to pick up at least one win. The women head to Sweet Briar Tuesday at 4:00pm in a rescheduled ODAC game. Then on Wednesday EMU hosts Randolph-Macon College at 7:00pm.
