Royals Take First Loss, 1-0

Box Score

EMU's soccer men opened their weekend tourney at Mary Washington with a 1-0 loss to the host Eagles Saturday afternoon.  The men slide to 1-1 on the year and return to the field Sunday afternoon against Marymount.

It was a rough start for the Royals, as they gave up a couple of shots early.  Mary Washington then struck in the eighth minute, getting a goal from Riley Fisher.

Juan Luna (Mount Jackson, Va./Stonewall Jackson) fired what turned out to be EMU's only shot on goal in the 17th minute.  The men had some momentum at the time as they also launched a pair of corner kicks, but the Eagles held them out of the net.

UMW controlled play much of the game, with Dylan Polley (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) taking the Royals' only other shot.  Mary Washington had a 16-2 advantage in shots, including 7-1 on goal.  Keeper Matthew Overacker (Mount Crawford, Va./Turner Ashby) made six saves in the loss.

Game time with Marymount on Sunday is at 3:30pm.
