Box Score Host Bridgewater was too much for the Eastern Mennonite field hockey team Wednesday night, claiming a 5-0 decision. With the loss in their Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener, the Royals fall to 2-7 on the season.
Coach E.A. Jackson made one change from the start, putting regular starting goalie Hannah Daley (Lothian, Md./Southern) into the field and Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) in front of the pipes. Troyer made a pair of nice saves before Bridgewater got on the board in the eighth minute.
Another goal in the 27th minute gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead at halftime.
BC was up 4-0 in the second when the Royals made a rush midway through. Daley ripped a shot in the 48th minute which was saved. Julie Burkhardt (Perkasie, Pa./PA Cyber) beat the Eagles' goalie a minute later but had a defender get in behind for a defensive save.
Bridgewater added one more score before the final horn.
Troyer racked up 13 saves in her first career start, as the Royals were out-shot 27-2. Daley and Burkhardt took the only shots for EMU.
Eastern Mennonite stays in the ODAC this weekend, playing an 11:00am game at Randolph-Macon.
