After dominating the second half, it took a goal with 4:21 left to clinch EMU's first win of the year, a 1-0 decision at Ferrum College.  The field hockey women had a 14-0 command of shots over the final 35 minutes, but it took until the 11th shot of the frame to earn the win.

With pressure mounting as Eastern Mennonite took shot after shot, Lorraine Armstrong (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) threw the monkey off the back, smacking in a ball from the top of the circle after a corner.  Senior Melissa Cox (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) assisted on the game-winner.

The women rarely let the ball across midfield in the second and took 10 penalty corners in the half, finishing with 19.  The teams each had a number of runs at the cage in the first half, but EMU staked a 23-13 edge for the game, including 13-7 on goal.

Hannah Daley (Lothian, Md./Southern) racked up seven saves in the first half before shifting to a field position in the second.  Freshman Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) tended EMU's cage in the second to claim her first collegiate win.

Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) was a constant threat on the offensive end, firing a game high eight shots with five on goal.  Mariah Martin (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) put four shots on target while Armstrong had three.

The Royals (1-5) hope to build on their momentum when they return home on Monday, hosting Sweet Briar College at 7:00pm.
