Box Score It was another balanced attack and 3-0 sweep for the Royals on their Spring Break swing through New York City. EMU's volleyball men swept host York (N.Y.) Wednesday night, picking up their third straight 3-0 decision as they improve to 8-5 and prepare for Mt. St. Vincent Thursday night.
Eastern Mennonite scored the first four points against their host Cardinals and bookended that with the final ten points in a 25-5 opener.
The men fell behind in the second set, 8-3, before scoring five straight to tie up the score. They used another 5-0 run to gain control en route to a 25-17 win. The third set had some momentum swings before the Royals used yet another 5-0 run to break off a 13-13 tie. York never threatened again in a 25-18 clincher.
EMU hit .292 as a team and racked up 11 service aces against just four serve errors. The Cardinals hit .032.
Scott Brigham (Montpelier, Va./Patrick Henry) had seven kills, while Marc Lovell (Newport News, Va./Menchville) added six and five aces. Jesse Reist (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) also had five aces along with landing kills on all five of his attacks. Dan Lutz (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) and Tim Callahan (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) each had five kills.
Russell Long (Hampton, Va./Bethel) put up 14 set assists while Zach Guiciardi (Creighton, Pa./Deer Lakes) added 12.
Randy Adams led York with eight kills and three blocks.
