Box Score Playing your best ball at the end of the year is key in any sport, and EMU's volleyball men seem to be doing just that. The Royals now have a three-match winning streak after sweeping Bluefield College on the road Tuesday night. They have also won seven of their last eight to improve to 12-6 on the year.
Eastern Mennonite rolled out to a 25-17 win in the opener. The host Rams regrouped in the second set and the two teams battled past regulation. EMU finally got an edge to close out a 30-28 win. The momentum was all in favor of the men by the third, as they closed the day with a 25-15 decision.
The Royals hit .256 as a team, including an impressive .412 in the final set. Tim Callahan (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) pounded out 13 kills on just 25 swings, finishing with a .320 attack percentage. He also had nine digs and two blocks. Jesse Reist (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) landed eight kills with nine digs. Marc Lovell (Newport News, Va./Menchville) had six kills, 16 set assists and two blocks.
Setter Zach Guiciardi (Creighton, Pa./Deer Lakes) had 15 assists. Dan Lutz (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) added three blocks.
EMU returns home this Saturday, hosting a tri-match against Marymount and Rust. The men look to improve their 3-5 conference record when they open the day against the Saints at 11:00am. The Royals take on Rust at 3:00pm, with the two other teams playing each other at 1:00pm.
