Box Score A hot end to the season wasn't enough to get the Royals momentum at top-seeded Washington and Lee in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament, as the Generals ended the soccer men's season with a 2-0 decision.
W&L controlled play much of the day and scored a goal in each half.
Eastern Mennonite had won three of their final four games to end the regular season, with the only loss coming at Washington and Lee on Oct. 24. But they couldn't flip the result in the postseason meeting. The Royals, whose roster was full of underclassmen, including four in the starting lineup, end the year with a record of 6-12-2.
The Generals scored in the 17th minute, getting a netter from Will Hamryka. Their second goal came on a play from a throw in, with Austin Gilbert rifling in a long shot in the 67th minute.
EMU only finished with a few quality looks at the goal, with many of their up close chances snuffed out with intercepted passes. Jake Lind (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) and Emmanuel Boamah (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) had the only shots on goal, while Jonathan Bush (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) also had a shot in his final game.
Keeper Daniel Nyce (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) was effective in keeping the game close, racking up a career high 13 saves. Nyce's big-time effort was the highest save total for an EMU keeper since Dillon Brunk also made 13 saves in a 2-1 win at Roanoke on Oct. 24, 2009.
Along with Lind and Bush, senior Derek Harnish (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) and Seth Suttles (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) were also playing their last game for EMU.
