ODAC-Leading Shenandoah Stops Royals, 5-0

Box Score

Despite showing the momentum from Saturday's 3-2 win over Bethany, the field hockey women couldn't get around the ODAC's first place team Tuesday night, as Shenandoah took a 5-0 decision in Harrisonburg.

The Royals displayed confidence and good ball control against SU.  But the deep-benched Hornets slowly took over the game.  The first half was even outside of a three-minute span where the visitors hit the cage twice for a 2-0 lead.

Shenandoah's depth really showed in the second, where they scored three more times for the final margin.

Freshman goalie Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) made a number of diving saves as well as stops on lifted balls en route to 11 saves.  She has made 11 or more saves in five of the past six games.

Mikayla Martin (Colorado Springs, Colo./Lewis Palmer) and Melissa Cox (Mountville, Pa/Hempfield) each had shots on goal, while Lorraine Armstrong (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) attempted a team best two shots.  Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) added a defensive save.

The women end their season with three straight road games, starting this Saturday at Virginia Wesleyan.  Game time is 1:00pm.

Coach E.A. Jackson said her team has made very noticeable improvements this season:
