Box Score For the second time in one week's time, the EMU volleyball men rolled to a 3-0 sweep over Lancaster Bible College. After taking down the Chargers in their opener Jan. 20 in Harrisonburg, Eastern Mennonite repeated the performance Tuesday night in Lancaster, Pa.
The Royals are now 3-1 as they get a short break before opening the Continental Volleyball Conference season next week Friday with a road date at Cairn.
The first game with LBC was tight, as Eastern Mennonite trailed 9-8 early on. But a quick 3-0 run signaled a momentum shift as the men exploded to finish the game on a 16-7 run, winning 25-15.
The Chargers were not deterred in game two, jumping to an 11-5 lead. The home team held the lead all the way until 23-22, when three straight points from the Royals stole a 25-23 decision.
EMU held a slight upper hand in the third until a 5-0 run late gave them control in a 25-17 clincher.
Freshman Micah Buller (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) responded to his second straight contest as an outside hitter with a match best 13 kills and .409 attack percentage. Buller was EMU's libero on opening day and even had a 21-dig effort in the team's second match of the season.
Playing in his hometown, Jesse Reist (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) spanked down 11 kills with a .304 attack percentage. Justin Spanka (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) landed six kills in one game of action while Joe Spriggs (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) added five.
Zach Guiciardi (Creighton, Pa./Deer Lakes) had 21 set assists while Russell Long (Hampton, Va./Bethel) added 13.
TJ Forsythe led Lancaster Bible with nine kills.
