Lind And Luna Provide Dramatic Goals For OT Win

Box Score

Jake Lind (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) and Juan Luna (Mount Jackson, Va./Stonewall Jackson) made a great pair Wednesday night, pushing the Eastern Mennonite soccer men to an overtime win at Ferrum to snap a three-game losing streak.  The two combined to send the contest into extra time and then provide the game-winner early in OT for a 3-2 victory.

The Royals improve to 3-4-2 with the non-conference win in what was their fourth overtime match of the year.  They are undefeated in extra time with two victories and two draws.

The Panthers had a number of on-target chances in the first half and took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 28th minute.

David Nester (Bluffton, Ohio/Bluffton) put a shot on goal just seconds before halftime, and the momentum carried into the second.  The freshman put another attempt on target in the opening minute before the Royals finally got the equalizer just 2:38 into the half.  Mark Mast (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) scored with an assist from Adam Moyer (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) to make it 1-1.

Ferrum took the lead back with a goal in the 63rd minute, and as time ticked away it looked like the home team might hold out for the win.  But Eastern Mennonite surged in the final minutes and Luna scored the team's second equalizer with an assist from Lind with just 51 seconds left in regulation.

The duo hooked up again less than two minutes into overtime, with Lind sticking in a corner from Luna to win the game 1:51 in to OT.  It was Lind's second goal of the year.  Both have been game-winners in extra time.

The Panthers had a slight 19-14 advantage in shots, although shots on goal were closer at 9-8 in favor of the home team.  Mast and Nester each had two of EMU's shots on goal.  Keeper Andrew Yoder (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) seven saves to earn the win.

The Royals hope to ride the momentum of the win into Saturday's tough conference contest at home.  EMU hosts Lynchburg, which was second in the ODAC's Preseason Poll, with a start time of 7:00pm.
