Box Score Playing fully healthy made a big difference for the EMU volleyball men Wednesday night, as they ended the year with a 3-0 sweep of Marymount University in Harrisonburg. The Royals fielded their full lineup for the first time since Feb. 9 and swept a Saints team who had beaten them in five games less than a month ago.
Eastern Mennonite ends the season with a record of 12-14, including 2-8 in the Continental Volleyball Conference. The men tied a program record with a six-match winning streak during March, but also failed to advance to the CVC Tournament as the injury bug bit during the conference season.
The Royals didn't hit on all cylinders early against Marymount, but closed game one on a 10-4 run to win 25-20. An early 7-0 run in game two gave the men a lead they wouldn't let go of in a 25-22 decision. EMU never trailed in game three and ran away with a 25-15 closer.
The men out-hit the Saints .220 to .030. Marc Lovell (Newport News, Va./Menchville) was the most effective attacker, landing eight kills on just 17 swings. Scott Brigham (Montpelier, Va./Patrick Henry) had a match high 10 kills with Quentin Moore (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) adding seven in a balanced attack. Matt Dolan (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) had 30 assists.
Kyle Storc (Columbus, Oh./Bishop Watterson) upped his season average with six blocks at the net. Brigham added four to go with six digs. Jesse Reist (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) also had six digs.
Bryce Ernsberger led Marymount with 10 kills. Tomasz Ksiazkiewicz had nine blocks.
