Box Score 2 After picking up their first win on Saturday, the EMU softball team clicked on all cylinders on Sunday, sweeping two games at the Beach Blast in the Mountains in Salem, Va.
EMU 8, Centenary 1
Jordan Aylor (Madison, Va./Madison County) jumpstarted game one, scoring on a double steal in the second. In the third, she knocked in three runs with a bases loaded double, then scored on Casey Racer's (Madison, Va./Madison County) double to make it 5-0.
The Royals added three unearned runs before finally losing the shutout on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh.
Aylor finished 2-4 from the plate with three runs and three RBIs. She also stole two bases. Molly Smith (Elkton, Va./Spotswood) and Mariah Foltz (Broadway, Va./Broadway) were each 2-3 with a walk and run scored.
In the circle, Aylor was again the leader, striking out 11 in the complete game win.
EMU 14, Catholic 2 – 5 innings
The women took a bit to get going in their second game scoring just two runs over their first three at-bats as they left six runners on base. The Cardinals tied the game at 2-2 with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third.
Smith and Foltz hit RBI singles in the fourth before Aylor smashed out a grand slam homer. Another run scored on a passed ball as Eastern Mennonite blew open a 9-2 lead. Five more runs touched home in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run pinch-hit double from Aislinn Lucas (Grottoes, Va./Fort Defiance). Freshman Cara Neikirk (Salem, Va./Glenvar) retired seven of the final eight batters to ease out to the mercy-shortened win.
Smith finished 3-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Racer was a perfect 3-3 with a walk, scoring three times and driving in two. Foltz reached base and scored three times. Jerrica McCallister (Timberville, Va./Broadway) drew three walks.
Neikirk allowed just four hits in five innings of work to get her second win in two days.
Eastern Mennonite is now 3-5 on the year after winning three games in Salem. This weekend they head to Salisbury, Md., for the Seagull Classic on Friday and Saturday.
