Royals Sweep LBC To Tie Program Record

Box Score

The Royals swept Lancaster Bible College on the road Tuesday night, improving to 11-9 while winning their sixth straight match.  It's the longest winning streak for the EMU volleyball men since a six-match string in 2007, and is likely the longest winning streak in program history.

The last four victories in the streak have all been sweeps.  Coach Dominick Porter was a senior on the 2007 team which also won six in a row.

Game one against the Chargers was close until Eastern Mennonite struck an 8-0 run to jump ahead 17-7.  LBC got back with three points before the men closed the door on a 25-19 decision.

The second game saw eight ties, but the Royals never trailed again after giving up the first point.  They closed strong for a 25-20 win.

A short surge gave EMU a 15-8 lead in game three and they never let the edge go in a 25-17 clincher.

The Royals hit .373 as a team and had 13 blocks to control the net.  Lancaster Bible hit .159 and managed just three stuffs.

Playing in his hometown, sophomore Jesse Reist (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) led all players with 13 kills.  Marc Lovell (Newport News, Va./Menchville) nailed 10 kills with just one error on 16 swings, while Quentin Moore (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) added 10 kills and 10 digs.  Matt Dolan (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) had 36 assists.

Kyle Storc (Columbus, Oh./Bishop Watterson) was EMU's main defensive weapon as he registered six blocks.  Moore had four, including one solo stuff.

The Royals, 1-4 in the CVC, will get a big challenge this weekend when they start up the second half of their conference slate.  Juniata College, the No. 1 team in the nation, comes to Harrisonburg Friday night at 7:00pm, followed by Thiel on Saturday afternoon.
