Box Score The Royals swept Lancaster Bible College on the road Tuesday night, improving to 11-9 while winning their sixth straight match. It's the longest winning streak for the EMU volleyball men since a six-match string in 2007, and is likely the longest winning streak in program history.
The last four victories in the streak have all been sweeps. Coach Dominick Porter was a senior on the 2007 team which also won six in a row.
Game one against the Chargers was close until Eastern Mennonite struck an 8-0 run to jump ahead 17-7. LBC got back with three points before the men closed the door on a 25-19 decision.
The second game saw eight ties, but the Royals never trailed again after giving up the first point. They closed strong for a 25-20 win.
A short surge gave EMU a 15-8 lead in game three and they never let the edge go in a 25-17 clincher.
The Royals hit .373 as a team and had 13 blocks to control the net. Lancaster Bible hit .159 and managed just three stuffs.
Playing in his hometown, sophomore Jesse Reist (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) led all players with 13 kills. Marc Lovell (Newport News, Va./Menchville) nailed 10 kills with just one error on 16 swings, while Quentin Moore (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) added 10 kills and 10 digs. Matt Dolan (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) had 36 assists.
Kyle Storc (Columbus, Oh./Bishop Watterson) was EMU's main defensive weapon as he registered six blocks. Moore had four, including one solo stuff.
The Royals, 1-4 in the CVC, will get a big challenge this weekend when they start up the second half of their conference slate. Juniata College, the No. 1 team in the nation, comes to Harrisonburg Friday night at 7:00pm, followed by Thiel on Saturday afternoon.
