Randolph Holds Off Men For Key ODAC Decision

Box Score

It all comes down to Bridgewater.  The EMU soccer men lost 1-0 at Randolph College Saturday night, meaning their last chance to get into the ODAC Tournament comes down to beating the Eagles in Tuesday night's season finale in Harrisonburg.

The Royals sit at 7-9-2 overall and 4-6 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, resting in ninth place in the league standings with 12 points.  They had entered the day in a three-way tie for seventh with Randolph and Bridgewater, but watched those two teams jump to sixth place as they both won.  Guilford is now in eighth with 14 points.  The Quakers play at first place Roanoke Tuesday night, although the Maroons have already clinched the top seed and may have less to play for.

Randolph seemed to have an edge from the opening kick in Saturday's game.  The WildCats hit the post in the sixth minute, and then had a shot in the 20th minute cleared off the line by EMU's Jake Lind (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite).  Despite being out-shot 8-3 in the frame, the Royals made it into halftime in a scoreless tie.

Ten minutes into the second, Randolph rallied.  Andrew Yoder (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) made a pair of saves in a three-minute span, but the WildCats one-touched in a cross in the 59th minute to grab the 1-0 lead.

Mark Mast (Harrisonburg, V./Eastern Mennonite) put the men's first shot on goal in the 66th minute, but a save kept them off the board.  Randolph had a second shot hit the post in the 84th minute, keeping it a one-goal difference.  Adam Moyer (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) then had EMU's final chance, but his shot with 2:09 to play was saved, leaving the WildCats with the win.

The home team had a 23-8 advantage in shots, including 9-2 on goal.  Yoder made five saves before getting injured with 18:57 left on the clock.  Ryan Zerkel (Mount Jackson, Va./Stonewall Jackson) had two stops in relief.

Game time for Tuesday's finale with rival Bridgewater is 7:00pm, following pre-game Senior Recognition ceremonies.  The Eagles won a double overtime thriller last year in Bridgewater.  BC has won the last two contests between the two teams.  Live stats and video will be streaming for the game.
