Box Score With two first-half goals setting the tone for the game, EMU's soccer men picked up a valuable ODAC three points. Their 2-0 win over Guilford, which entered the day in a three-way tie for third in the league standings, gives the Royals a needed bump, improving to 2-4 in the ODAC.
Each team took shots in the opening minutes, but Eastern Mennonite broke through in the 14th minute. After a foul in the far left corner, Juan Luna (Mount Jackson, Va./Stonewall Jackson) lofted a free kick to the near post and Jake Lind (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) was right there to deflect it into the net to make it 1-0.
In the 38th minute, the men struck again. Lind was the helper this time, sending in a corner kick. Jonathan Bush (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) used his 6-2 frame to get a header up and past the Guilford keeper for a 2-0 lead.
The Quakers came on the attack in the second half, but senior keeper Andrew Yoder (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) made a number of nice diving saves to preserve the shutout, just the team's third of the year.
Guilford finished with a 22-11 doubling in shots, including 7-5 on goal. Bush charted four targets, including two on goal. Yoder made seven saves.
Eastern Mennonite has now won their last two ODAC games and improves to 5-7-2 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The men head to Emory & Henry on Wednesday, playing a 7:00pm game.
