Men Slide To 1-1 After Loss To Mary Washington

Box Score

After a scoreless first half, the second 45 minutes got away from the EMU soccer men Saturday afternoon, as Mary Washington tacked in three goals for a 3-0 decision.  The Royals are now 1-1 after opening the season at the UMW Soccer Classic in Fredericksburg.

The Eagles out-shot EMU 8-2 in the first half, but neither team found the net.  Finally in the 54th minute, Mary Washington broke through with the first goal.  The home team snuck in two quick goals 20 minutes later to provide the cushion.

Carl Becker (Vienna, Va./James Madison) just missed scoring in the final moments, putting a shot off the post with less than two minutes to go.  The senior was the only Royal with two shots, as the offense was limited.  Dylan Polley (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) had the men's only on-goal chance.

Keeper Andrew Yoder (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) made three saves as EMU was out-shot 14-7.

Eastern Mennonite plays in another classic next weekend, hosted by Rutgers-Camden.  The men get the nationally ranked Scarlet Raptors on Saturday, followed by Cairn on Sunday.
