Offense Hits On All Cylinders In 3-1 Win

Box Score

It took less than ten minutes of the 2013 season for the Eastern Mennonite soccer men to score and they never looked back in a 3-1 win over Marymount Friday evening in Fredericksburg.  The Royals play host Mary Washington Saturday afternoon to complete play at the UMW Soccer Classic.

Just 9:38 into the game, junior Mark Mast (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) put EMU's first shot attempt of the year into the net.  After a corner kick, David Hooley (Bluffton, Ohio/Bluffton) scored in the 35th minute to give the men a 2-0 lead at halftime.

The Saints came out strong to start the second half, and cut the lead in half with a score in the 51st minute.  But ten minutes later, Christian Rhine (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) scored the first goal of his sophomore season, getting an assist from newcomer Jake Lind (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite).

The 3-1 lead would stick over the final 30 minutes, as the Royals moved to 1-0 on the year.

Eastern Mennonite had a 12-9 advantage in shots, including 7-4 in shots on goal.  The men also had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Andrew Yoder (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) had three saves in goal.

Saturday's contest with the Eagles starts at 2:30pm.  Mary Washington lost to ODAC opponent Randolph College Friday, 3-0.
