Box Score 2 EMU's softball team got hits on Tuesday, but couldn't put them together, as the women left a combined 20 runners on base in a pair of ODAC losses to Randolph College.
Randolph 6, EMU 2
Game one was quiet until the third, when the WildCats got on the scoreboard with three runs. The visitors plated another run in the fourth, and then made it 6-0 with their second two-run homer in the fifth.
The Lady Royals finally cracked the scoring column in the bottom of the fifth. Brooke Sigrist (Crimora, VA/Fort Defiance) led off with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Angelia Miller (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) brought home Cheyenne Cash (Elkton, VA/East Rockingham) with a sacrifice fly.
But the women went down in order in the sixth and left two runners on base in the seventh, taking the 6-2 loss.
Despite out-hitting the WildCats 9-8 in the game, EMU left eight runners on base. Sigrist and Cash each had three hits and scored a run.
Jordan Aylor (Madison, VA/Madison County) started and gave up three runs over 5.2 innings, slipping to 7-2. Molly Smith (Elkton, VA/Spotswood) also have up three runs in 1.1 innings of work.
Randolph 7, EMU 1
The WildCats got their bats going in game two and out-hit the women 12-10. They put together three hits in the first and grabbed a 2-0 lead.
Brooke Hensley (Elkton, VA/Spotswood) cut the lead in half with a homerun to center in the third, making it 2-1. The longball was her sixth of the year.
But Randolph returned fire quickly, scoring five runs in the top of the fourth to balloon a 7-1 cushion.
Eastern Mennonite continued to get runners on, but couldn't get them in, stranding 12 for the game, as RC held on for the sweep.
The Lady Royals had 10 hits and three walks, led by Smith going 3-3 with a walk. Sigrist was 2-3 with a walk out of the leadoff spot.
Kaitlyn Morris (Elkton, VA/Page County) started and was chased in the fourth inning, giving up six runs. She took the loss to move to 3-8. Smith and Aylor both pitched in relief.
The losses drop EMU to 16-12 overall and 5-7 in the ODAC. The women are currently in eighth in the league standings, holding on to the final spot for the ODAC Tournament, which is April 26-28 in Salem.
The Lady Royals have a tough weekend on tap, playing at Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday followed by Randolph-Macon on Sunday.
