Bridgewater 8, EMU 0 – 5 innings
Game one started as a pitchers' duel with neither team scoring over the first two innings.
The Eagles got their first base runners in the third, and made it count for a 3-0 lead. EMU went down in the order in the top of the fourth, but Bridgewater came right back and plated five more runs to go ahead 8-0.
The Lady Royals went down in order again in the fifth to suffer the mercy-ruled loss.
EMU had just two hits and one walk. Aislinn Lucas (Grottoes, VA/Fort Defiance) had a double.
Molly Smith (Elkton, VA/Spotswood) started and took the loss to fall to 5-2. She allowed four runs, as did reliever Jordan Aylor (Madison, VA/Madison County).
Bridgewater 11, EMU 7
Both teams had the bats going in game two. Brooke Sigrist (Crimora, VA/Fort Defiance) had an RBI single to start the scoring in the top of the first, but Bridgewater answered with five runs in their first at-bat to take the lead.
Aylor ripped a two-run homer for the women in the second, but BC added three more in the bottom of the frame to make the score 8-3. Angelia Miller (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) hit a solo shot in the third to end the game-opening flurry of scoring.
The score stayed 8-4 until the fifth, when the Eagles brought in two more to push the lead to 10-4.
Aylor singled to lead off the sixth and started a three-run rally. Sigrist had a two-run triple and Smith had an RBI single, but the women left the bases loaded and still trailed 10-7.
Bridgewater added a solo homer in their half of the sixth and the Lady Royals couldn't muster a rally in the seventh and took the loss.
The women actually out-hit BC 14-12, but left 10 runners on base. Sigrist finished 4-5 from the plate with three RBIs and a run. Courtney Allman (Mt. Solon, VA/Fort Defiance), Miller, Aylor and Cheyenne Cash (Elkton, VA/East Rockingham) each had two hits.
Kaitlyn Morris (Elkton, VA/Page County) started in the circle but was chased after only getting two outs. She gave up five runs to take the loss and slip to 3-7. Aylor and Smith each pitched in relief.
The Lady Royals will try to snap their skid at Emory & Henry this weekend, playing a pair against the Wasps on Saturday.
