Eagles Knock EMU From ODAC Tournament

Box Score

For the first time since 2004, EMU's softball team left the ODAC Tournament without a victory.  After a loss to top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan earlier in the day, the young Lady Royals saw their year come to a close with an 8-2 loss to rival Bridgewater College.

Eastern Mennonite ends the season with a 21-19 record.  Their 0-2 exit from the conference tourney ends a seven-year run with at least one victory.  Included in that stretch was the 2010 team, which went 4-0 and swept to the conference championship.

In Friday's rivalry contest in Salem, the Eagles took a 2-0 lead with a two-out single in the top of the first.  The Lady Royals came right back and tied it, however, as Brooke Hensley (Elkton, VA/Spotswood) knocked an RBI single and Courtney Allman (Mt. Solon, VA/Fort Defiance) brought her home with a double.

BC took the lead back in the third, scoring four runs, including a three-run homer with two outs.  An error in the fifth helped the Eagles plate two more for the 8-2 lead.

EMU's offense, which generated at least one base runner in each of the first four innings, ground to a halt, as Bridgewater pitcher Aven Thomas retired the final 11 Royals she faced.

Hensley finished 2-3 with a run and an RBI.  Allman was 1-3 with an RBI.  Aislinn Lucas (Grottoes, VA/Fort Defiance) had a pair of singles in her two at-bats, and Brooke Sigrist (Crimora, VA/Fort Defiance) had EMU's only other hit.

Jordan Aylor (Madison, VA/Madison County) started in the circle but was chased after allowing six runs in 2.2 innings and took the loss.  Molly Smith (Elkton, VA/Spotswood) pitched 1.2 innings and Kaitlyn Morris (Elkton, VA/Page County) threw the final 2.2 frames.

As EMU's lone senior, Courtney Allman saw her playing days come to end.  The slugger leaves with a host of program records: homeruns in season (9), RBIs in a season (46 – tied with Karla Alderfer), career homeruns (31), career RBIs (151) and career walks (52).
