If history is any indication, the Lady Royals will still make a run in this weekend's ODAC Tournament despite their first round loss to top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan Friday afternoon.  In each of the past five years, Eastern Mennonite has won at least two games at the double elimination tournament, whether or not they won their first game.

After an 8-4 loss to the Marlins earlier today, the Lady Royals must work through the loser's bracket, next playing rival Bridgewater College at 4:00pm.  All ODAC Tournament games are at the Moyer Complex in Salem, VA.

EMU scored first against No. 1 VWC, plating two runs in the top of the first on a single from senior Courtney Allman (Mt. Solon, VA/Fort Defiance).

Virginia Wesleyan took the lead with three unearned runs in the third and fourth innings.  In the fifth, they combined seven singles to score five more runs and blow open an 8-2 lead.

The Lady Royals rallied again in the seventh, getting another two-run single from Allman to make it 8-4, but that would be it.

Kaitlyn Morris (Elkton, VA/Page County) pitched 4.2 innings and was tagged with the loss.  She was charged with all eight runs, although only five were earned.  Molly Smith (Elkton, VA/Spotswood) pitched in relief.

Allman had half of EMU's hits, going 3-4 with four RBIs.  Cheyenne Cash (Elkton, VA/East Rockingham) and Brooke Hensley (Elkton, VA/Spotswood) each had a hit with two runs scored.

Eastern Mennonite is now 21-18 overall.  The No. 5 Eagles lost 4-3 to fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon in their first round game.  Bridgewater swept the season series between the two rivals, winning 8-0 and 11-7.
