Box Score 2 The EMU softball women dropped an ODAC doubleheader at powerful Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon. The Lady Royals, now 16-14 overall and 5-9 in the conference, must turn around quickly to play at Randolph-Macon Sunday.
Virginia Wesleyan 4, Eastern Mennonite 0
The women loaded the bases in the top of the first, but failed to score. VWC cracked through in the third, taking advantage of two EMU errors to score three runs.
Despite loading the bases again in the fourth and in the sixth, Eastern Mennonite failed to score as they left 10 runners on base. The Marlins added one more run in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.
Kaitlyn Morris (Elkton, VA/Page County) allowed nine hits in six innings from the circle to fall to 3-9. She was hurt by three EMU errors, as all four runs were unearned.
Brooke Sigrist (Crimora, VA/Fort Defiance) and Aislinn Lucas (Grottoes, VA/Fort Defiance) each had a pair of singles.
Virginia Wesleyan 8, Eastern Mennonite 1
The Marlins did all of their scoring in two big innings of the nightcap, plating three in the first and five more in the fifth. Casey Racer (Madison, VA/Madison County) poked a two-out, bases loaded single to score Courtney Allman (Mt. Solon, VA/Fort Defiance) in the fourth, but the women left the bases loaded for the fourth time of the day.
Racer and Angelia Miller (Bridgewater, VA/Turner Ashby) each had two hits, with Sigrist getting the only other hit for EMU.
Jordan Aylor (Madison, VA/Madison County) started and was tagged for five runs in 4.0 innings, slipping to 7-3. Molly Smith (Elkton, VA/Spotswood) and Lauren Campbell (Stuarts Draft, VA/Stuarts Draft) each pitched an inning in relief.
