Box Score Ten days ago, the EMU volleyball men pushed No. 9 Stevenson to the limit before falling 3-2 on the road. In Friday night's rematch, the Mustangs made quick work of Eastern Mennonite, handing the Royals a 3-0 loss.
In the first meeting between the two teams, EMU was solid defensively at the net, collecting a total of 10 team blocks. In the second meeting, Stevenson found a way around the block as the men had only two solo stuffs.
The Royals had an 18-17 lead in game one before SU scored eight straight to win 25-18. The momentum carried to a 25-11 decision in game two. The Mustangs jumped to an early 9-2 lead in game three and the men would get no closer than two points at 19-17 before SU closed out a 25-21 decision.
Greg Knight (Chesapeake, VA/Hickory) had a match high 10 kills, with Jesse Reist (Lancaster, PA/JP McCaskey East) and Chris Moise (Hollywood, FL/South Broward) each adding six. John Barry (Columbus, OH/Worthington Kilbourne) had 31 assists.
Marc Lovell (Newport News, VA/Menchville) led the back row with eight digs while libero Travis Riesen (Hillsboro, KS/Hillsboro) had seven.
The Royals, who hadn't lost back-to-back matches all season until their current four-match losing streak, slip to 12-9 overall. The road doesn't get any easier tomorrow when the men continue play at the Stevenson Tournament in Owings Mills, MD. EMU takes on No. 7 New Paltz State at 10:00am and then Penn State-Altoona at 2:00pm.
