Box Score Despite outscoring Lynchburg in total points, the EMU volleyball women took a five-set setback Wednesday night on the road. The Royals are now 2-5 in the ODAC and sit a half game out of eighth place in the hunt for the final ODAC Tournament berth.
Eastern Mennonite led by as many as six points in a 25-21 win to start the night. The Hornets closed game two on a 13-4 surge to win 25-20 and change the momentum. LC won game three 25-21.
The Royals slowly built a lead in game four and then closed on a 9-2 run to win 25-15. The teams traded leads in game five, with the women taking a 10-8 edge after a kill from McKenna Carter (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft). After a timeout, Lynchburg took over with a 5-0 run, however, rolling to a 15-12 clincher.
EMU, playing without leading hitter D Probst (Willow Street, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite), was led by 13 kills each from Rebecca Hardy (Port Republic, Va./Eastern Mennonite) and Kayley Argenbright (Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial). Rachel Kennel (Parkesburg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) was one swing behind with 12 kills.
Setter Dani Driver (Cheverly, Md./Elizabeth Seton) had a great all-around effort with 42 assists, 24 digs, three blocks and two service aces. Carter finished with a match high six blocks while Hardy added three stuffs. Katie Miller (San Antonio, Tex./Brandeis) led all players with 25 digs.
The Royals are now 9-12 overall. They have a week off before preparing for a tough home stretch, hosting conference favorites Randolph-Macon and Washington and Lee on Oct. 16 and Oct. 18, respectively.
