Men's Soccer

Ranked Red Devils Too Much For Royals

Box Score

EMU's soccer men took a 3-0 loss at the hands of nationally-ranked Dickinson Tuesday night in Carlisle, Pa.  The Red Devils looked every bit as good as their No. 13 national ranking in the NSCAA coaches poll released earlier in the day, as they out-shot the Royals 32-10.

Dickinson came out aggressively and put a shot off the post and another off the crossbar before scoring in the 18th minute.  They netted one more in the 31st minute to lead 2-0 at halftime.  Christian Rhine (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) and Mark Mast (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) each had shots on goal for EMU over the opening frame.

The men held the Red Devils' powerful offense in check most of the second half until a late goal provided the final tally.  Rhine had a good look for Eastern Mennonite in the second, but his attempt was saved in the 64th minute.  Brendan Jeschke (Vienna, Va./James Madison) put a shot on goal after a corner in the final minute, but his kick was stopped as well.

Andrew Yoder (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) piled up 10 saves in the losing effort, the second time this season he has charted that as his career best.  Yoder also hit the mark against No. 8 Rutgers-Camden on Sept. 7.

Jeschke and Adam Moyer (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) each had three shots for the Royals.  Rhine put both of his attempts on goal.

This is EMU's third loss this season to a nationally-ranked opponent.  They also fell to ODAC rival Randolph 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 5.

The non-conference loss drops the Royals to 3-11 as they prepare for their final four ODAC matches of the season.  That stretch starts with a road date at Lynchburg this Saturday at 4:00pm.  The Hornets are currently fourth in the ODAC standings.  EMU is currently 10th out of 12 teams in the league, although their final three games are against teams in the bottom half of the standings.
