EMU Gets Another 2-0 Win In ODAC Play

Box Score

The EMU men earned their third consecutive 2-0 shutout in ODAC play Saturday night, tacking in two second-half goals for a victory over Guilford College in Harrisonburg.

Despite playing a great first half, the Royals went into halftime locked in a 0-0 tie.  The men had a 13-7 edge in shots in the first, including a sequence where Jonathan Bush (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) hit the post and Ian Mast's (Willow Street, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) follow-up was denied by GC's keeper.

The Quakers surged to start the second, firing five shots in the opening seven minutes.  But a red card started to tip the scales.  With the visitors still unhappy about the call, sophomore Mark Mast (Harrisonburg, VA/Eastern Mennonite) dribbled across the top of the box and rifled a shot into the goal.  Mast's second goal of the season came a mere 21 seconds after the red card.

Guilford regrouped and continued to push.  In the 66th minute, defender Joao Downs (Limon, Costa Rica/Cologio de Limon) preserved the lead by knocking away a shot.  Five minutes later, Eastern Mennonite got insurance.

Kurtis Blosser (Harrisonburg, VA/Eastern Mennonite) took a pass from Issac Peglow (Milroy, PA/Indian Valley) on the left wing and lofted a tight shot into the upper right corner of the goal, upping the lead to 2-0 with less than 20 minutes to play.

The Quakers got a few more looks in the closing minutes, but no more shots on goal.

EMU finished with a 20-18 edge in shots, but more importantly a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal.  Andrew Yoder (Harrisonburg, VA/Eastern Mennonite) made one save.

Bush led the Royals with five shots while Blosser and Juan Flores (Mt. Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) each had three.  Ten different men took shots for the men.

Eastern Mennonite improves to 5-3-1 with the win, including a 3-0 start in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.  Next up is a non-conference game with Maryville College Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm in Harrisonburg.
