Last week the EMU softball team was impressive at the Beach Blast, albeit a shortened trip.  The women's time at the Roanoke Valley Softball Bash on Saturday was shortened as well, but not because of the weather, as the Lady Royals powered past two opponents, each ending on the five-inning mercy rule.

EMU 10, Castleton 0 – 5 innings
Eastern Mennonite started out in fine fashion, rolling over Castleton in five innings as Molly Smith (Elkton, VA/Spotswood) (2-0) pitched a complete game one-hitter.

Lisa Lee (Buckingham, VA/Buckingham County) started the scoring with a leadoff homerun in the first, her first round tripper of the season.  Smith was just as effective at the plate as she was in the circle, as the sophomore rapped a pair of doubles in her three at-bats, knocking in four runs and scoring another.  Shortstop Brooke Hensley (Elkton, VA/Spotswood) had a double and two RBIs.

EMU 14, Rochester 0 – 5 innings
Lee (3-0) then took the pitching circle against Rochester College, and threw a four-hit shutout.

Offensively, the Lady Royals smashed out four homers.  Lee was 3-4 with her second longball of the day, collecting three RBIs and three runs scored.  Hensley also went deep, batting 2-4 with three RBIs and two runs.

Courtney Allman (Mt. Solon, VA/Fort Defiance) was 3-4 with her homerun and two RBIs.  Rachel Breeden (Shenandoah, VA/Page County) had the fourth homer for the team as she scored a pair of runs.

The women are now 7-1 as they prepare for day two of the Roanoke Valley Softball Bash in Salem, VA.  EMU takes on Old Westbury Sunday morning at 9:00am and then co-host Ferrum at 1:00pm.
