First Seven Minutes Doom Field Hockey Women

Box Score

Roanoke came ready to play Wednesday, getting the game's only goal after dominating the first seven minutes to send the EMU field hockey women home with a 1-0 loss.

The Maroons had three shots and three penalty corners in the opening 6:28 in caging a quick score.  They only managed three more shots and two corners over the final 63:32.

Eastern Mennonite controlled the flow of play the rest of the game, but had their shots stopped or slide wide to suffer the frustrating defeat.

The Lady Royals had an 11-6 edge in shots.  Sam Ferrier (Sellersville, PA/Christopher Dock) played all 70 minutes in goal and had four saves.

Jessica Blanks (Richmond, VA/Manchester), Jenessa Derstine (Harleysville, PA/Christopher Dock) and Adriana Santiago (Souderton, PA/Christopher Dock) each had three shots as the offense was shut out for just the second time this season.

EMU falls to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in what is becoming a heated ODAC race.  The women are tied with both Shenandoah University and Washington and Lee University for fifth in the league standings.  Only the top six teams made the postseason tourney.

The Lady Royals host Virginia Wesleyan this Saturday at 4:00pm as part of EMU's Homecoming Weekend.
