Box Score Sometimes all it takes is a few minutes. That was the case for the Eastern Mennonite soccer men Sunday afternoon, as they gave up two goals in the opening 10:17 of the game and lost 2-0 to Salisbury.
The Royals were playing in Salisbury, MD, as part of the two-day Elmer Lord Classic. In Saturday's 2-1 loss to St. Mary's the men gave up two late goals. Sunday it was two early goals.
The host SeaGulls scored in the sixth minute on a corner kick. Shortly after an EMU corner, Salisbury struck again on a break, beating keeper Andrew Yoder (Harrisonburg, VA/Eastern Mennonite) for a 2-0 lead in the 11th minute.
Defender Jared Ross (Sarasota, FL/Sarasota Christian) had a shot saved in the 20th minute.
The men made a surge midway through the second half, but the Gulls got saves on shots from Mitchell Leap (Harrisonburg, VA/Eastern Mennonite) and Brendan Jeschke (Vienna, VA/James Madison).
Those were the best chances for EMU as they were shut out for the first time this season.
Salisbury out-shot the Royals 17-8, including 8-3 in shots on goal. Yoder finished with six saves.
The loss drops the men below .500 at 1-2. They return home for a non-conference match with Southern Virginia this Wednesday night at 7:00pm.
