Box Score 2 Just a day removed from the ending of their 13-game winning streak, the Lady Royals had their bats shut down as they dropped a doubleheader at Randolph-Macon. Eastern Mennonite scored just one run Sunday in Ashland, as the women fell 2-1 and 4-0.
Randolph-Macon 2, EMU 1
Box Score
The first game of the twinbill was a tight battle between pitchers Lisa Lee (Buckingham, Va./Buckingham County) for EMU and Brandi Wilson for the Yellow Jackets.
R-MC struck first with a rally started by a leadoff single in the third. The combination of a hit batter, fielding error, walk and wild pitch allowed two runs to score.
Sara Jenkins (Stanley, Va./Page County) doubled to lead off the fifth. Jessica Sullivan (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) singled with one out to bring in a run and make the score 2-1. Megan Viafora (Stanley, Va./Page County) followed with a single to put two runners on base, but a strikeout and lineout ended the rally.
Other than Lee's walk to lead off the sixth, neither team got another runner on base as R-MC held on for the 2-1 win.
EMU out-hit the Yellow Jackets 4-3 but the women were victimized by the one bad inning. Lee took the complete game loss, as just one of the runs were earned. She struck out eight in six innings.
Randolph-Macon 4, EMU 0
Box Score
The second game was similar to the first as Randolph-Macon scored all their runs in one inning. The four runs scored in the bottom of the fourth as the Yellow Jackets got three of their four hits, combined with an EMU error and a botched fielders choice play.
The Lady Royals got at least one runner on base in five of their innings, but couldn't bring any of them home.
The women again out-hit R-MC, 5-4, but starting pitcher Molly Smith (Elkton, Va./Spotswood) took the hard-luck loss. Smith scattered four hits and three walks and gave up three earned runs.
Lee reached base all three times she came to plate, as the junior had a pair of singles and was also hit by a pitch.
Now on a three-game losing skid, Eastern Mennonite slips to 18-10 overall and 9-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Lady Royals step out of conference play on Wednesday, traveling to Mary Baldwin.
