Some nights it's just not meant to be, and that was the case for the Runnin Royals Wednesday at Hampden-Sydney.  The Tigers shot a vicious 61% for the game and ran away with a 108-65 decision from EMU.

The men scored first in the game, getting a jumper from Andrew Thorne (Front Royal, VA/Skyline) for a 2-0 lead.  Hampden-Sydney then scored the next 12 points.

Dajon Daniel (Fredericksburg, VA/Mountain View) got the men back within six points, as his layup with 12:16 to go in the first made it 19-13, but the Tigers put the lead back into double figures and never looked back.

HSC led 54-31 at halftime and scored another 54 in the second to ice the win.

Despite Eastern Mennonite forcing a whopping 35 turnovers, many of the Tiger miscues were travelling calls or went out of bounds, meaning the Royals couldn't get into their running offense.  EMU had 19 steals, just two short of the team record, but also had 27 of their own turnovers.

Freshman Ryan Yates (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) provided a small bright spot, netting 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting.  R.J. Sims (Fort Washington, MD/Friendly) was the only other Royal in double figures as he scored 10.

Thorne was limited to six points, ten below his season average.  The junior did have a game high four steals.  Jeremy Heizer (Staunton, VA/Riverheads) added nine off the bench.  The Royals shot just 34% overall with a 3-15 performance from outside.

Harrison George led Hampden-Sydney with 26 points as he hit 11-of-12 shots.  The Tigers were 38-62 from the floor, including 10-of-17 from long range.

The loss drops the men back below .500 at 2-3.  They are also 1-1 in the ODAC.  Next up is a road date with the always tough Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets this Saturday afternoon.
