Box Score Despite out-shooting Shenandoah in the first half, the Lady Royals trailed. But they made up for it in the second half, knocking in three unanswered goals to grab a 3-1 win in ODAC play Tuesday night in Harrisonburg.
Eastern Mennonite had a hefty 12-5 edge in shots over the first 35 minutes, but the visiting Hornets took the first lead by putting in a shot in the seventh minute.
It was all EMU in the second. Nicole Bencsik (Telford, PA/Souderton) cleaned up a loose ball in front of the cage and scored just six minutes in to tie it up at 1-1. A little over two minutes later she scored again, this time with an assist from Adriana Santiago (Souderton, PA/Christopher Dock).
With the 2-1 edge, the Lady Royals withstood Shenandoah's one shot of the half in the 53rd minute. Sophomore Carol Brinkley (Chester, VA/Thomas Dale) then scored her first goal of the season when she flipped a loose ball over the head of SU's goalie in the 59th minute.
Neither team took a shot over the final 11 minutes, as the women stayed perfect in conference play.
Eastern Mennonite had a 17-6 edge in shots, including 8-6 in shots on goal. Mary Beth Danaher (Matoaca, VA/Matoaca) made five saves.
With her two goals, Bencsik took over the team lead with seven scores on the season. Santiago and Jenna Longenecker (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) each have five.
The Lady Royals move back over .500 with the win, improving to 6-5. They also maintain their perfect 2-0 mark in the ODAC. Next up is an important conference contest at Randolph-Macon this Thursday at 4:00pm.
