Box Score After a 3-2 non-conference start to the season, the Eastern Mennonite field hockey team opened their Old Dominion Athletic Conference slate Wednesday afternoon at Roanoke. The Lady Royals scored the first four goals in the game and ran away with a 7-2 decision.
EMU got things rolling in the 9th minute, with Carol Brinkley (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) caging her second goal of the season. Linda Cimini (Cape May, NJ/Middle Township) sandwiched a pair of goals around a Hailee Rittle (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) penalty shot as the Lady Royals took a 4-0 lead six minutes into the second half.
The Maroons got their first goal in the 48th minute before Adriana Santiago (Souderton, Pa./Christopher Dock) hooked up three times to help produce the final score of 7-2.
Santiago notched her first career hat trick and also picked up assists on both of Cimini's scores to give her eight points in the game. She now has a team high seven goals this year, with Cimini second at four scores.
Rittle also had a pair of assists to go along with her goal.
Eastern Mennonite dominated the contest despite using only 12 players. The women outshot Roanoke 29-4 and 27-3 in shots on goal. The Lady Royals also had an 11-1 edge in corners.
Now 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the ODAC, EMU steps back out of conference play with a road trip this weekend. The women are at McDaniel on Saturday and Mary Washington on Sunday.
