The Eastern Mennonite men's soccer team was on the road Tuesday night, playing in Ashland, Va., in a conference matchup with Randolph-Macon. It was a choppy game, filled with 33 combined fouls, but the Yellow Jackets tacked in a late goal to knock off the Royals, 1-0.

The offense continued to struggle for EMU, as the men were limited to 10 shots, including just four on goal. R-MC had 16 shots with eight being on goal.

The host Yellow Jackets got the game's first and only break when they scored with just under ten minutes remaining in regulation for the deciding goal.

Eastern Mennonite made a couple of good runs in the closing minutes but couldn't get the equalizer. R-MC's keeper made saves on shots by Brent Yoder (Sarasota, Fl./Sarasota Christian) and Jay Shearer (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby) as the clock wound down.

The game saw few corner kicks, as the Yellow Jackets held a slight 3-1 edge. The home team did show its aggression by drawing 13 offsides whistles to just one for EMU.

Keeper Ryan Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Menchville) finished with seven saves.

The Royals drop to 2-10-1 with the loss, including 1-4-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The men will look to start a late-season surge with two home games later this week - Wesley on Thursday and Guilford on Saturday.
