Box Score As far as the Royals were concerned, Hampden-Sydney picked the wrong time to play like they were supposed to. The Tigers entered Saturday's game with a 1-4-1 mark in ODAC play, despite being tabbed as the preseason favorite. The Tigers ran wild at their Homecoming, however, controlling play from start to finish to beat EMU 7-0.
H-SC had been outscored 8-4 in their previous six conference games, but put in two goals before Eastern Mennonite got its first shot. By the 25th minute, the Tigers led 3-0.
The Royals tried to regroup in the second half, but the home team scored two goals early in the frame and then added two more late for the final deficit.
EMU was outshot 20-6, but did have a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Jay Shearer (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby) led the men with two shots on goal.
Freshman Ryan Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Menchville) and Hayden Miller (New Market, Va./Stonewall Jackson) split time in goal for the Royals.
The loss drops Eastern Mennonite to 3-12-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. With just two games left on the schedule, the Royals will need to win them both to have a chance at making the ODAC Tournament. The men play their home finale Wednesday against Washington & Lee before ending the season next Saturday at Randolph.
