Junior outfielder Jessica Blosser (Crimora, Va./Wilson Memorial) and freshman outfielder/pitcher Lisa Lee (Buckingham, Va./Buckingham Co.) each hit a grand slam home run for the Eastern Mennonite University softball team as the Lady Royals swept a non-conference series from Mary Baldwin College Tuesday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.

Game scores were 10-2, and 13-2. The two wins put the Lady Royals' record at 13-15 overall and they remain 5-9 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

EMU won game one in five innings as the Lady Royals knocked out eight hits with the big blow coming off the bat of Blosser in the fourth inning. Following three straight walks Blosser came up to bat and stroked a line drive home run of the left-field fence to put the Lady Royals up 7-2.

In the fifth inning the Lady Royals again put runners on as Mandee Madden (Winchester, Va./John Handley) and Jessica Kowalski (Melville, NY/Half Hollows Hill) reached on a single and walk, respectively. Sophomore outfielder Brittany Caricofe (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) then laced a double to center, scoring Madden and putting runners at second and third for Nicole Wade (Madison Heights, Va./Liberty Christian). Wade followed the Caricofe double with a two-base hit of her own, scoring both Kowalski and the afore mentioned Caricofe with the game winning runs.

Freshman Misty Judd (Luray, Va./Luray) picked up her fifth win of the year, going five innings and allowing only two runs on five hits while striking out six batters.

Wade went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI in game one. Caricofe was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Taylor Barela had a hit in three trips to the plate for Mary Baldwin, driving in two runs.

In game two, the Lady Royals found themselves down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first but Blosser and the EMU offense again responded. Lee led off with a single to left-field and later came around to score on an RBI double off the bat of freshman Megan Viafora (Stanley, Va./Page Co.). Viafora also came around to score along with freshman outfielder Rasheeda Crews (Brookneal, Va./William Campbell) on an RBI single by Blosser.

EMU followed up a three-run first inning with a two-spot in the second inning as Viafora scored a pair of runs on her first triple of the season.

With the score at 5-2, the home team added another three runs in the fifth inning before closing the game out in style in the bottom of the sixth. After connecting for her fourth home run of the year in the fifth, Lee came back up in the sixth and hit her first career grand slam home run, a one-out shot over the left-field fence to seal the two-game sweep.

The win also gave Lee her third victory of the season with senior Jamie Fraysher (Waterford, Va./Loudoun Valley) pitching 1 2/3 innings in relief, striking out two.

Viafora finished game two going 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Lee ended up with four hits in five at-bats, scoring four runs while driving in a career-high seven.

Freshman infielder Jamie Blosser (Crimora, Va./Wilson Memorial) was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI.

The Lady Royals will now play a non-conference double header on Friday, April 10, against Briarcliffe College beginning at 11 a.m.
