EMU Softball Sets Sights on ODAC Tournament, Defeat Emory & Henry

The Eastern Mennonite University softball team inched closer to securing a place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament with a pair of road wins over Emory & Henry College Saturday afternoon in Emory, Va.

EMU won by game scores of 3-2, and 15-3.

EMU now stands at an even .500 for the season (17-17) and is 7-11 in the ODAC. Emory & Henry falls to 4-23 overall and 1-14 in conference play.

Freshman infielder/pitcher Lisa Lee (Buckingham, Va./Buckingham Co.) had a home run in each contest while Mandee Madden (Winchester, Va./John Handley) and Dana Hall (Shenandoah, Va./Page Co.) also had home runs in the winning effort.

Lee went 3-for-4 in game two, scoring three times while driving in three. Madden was 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI while Hall had a perfect 2-for-2 line with a run scored and three RBI.

Sophomore outfielder Jessica Blosser (Crimora, Va./Wilson Memorial) was the hitting star of game one, going 2-for-4 at the dish with a run scored and an RBI. Lee added another hit and an two RBIs in four at-bats with her first home run of the day, a two-run shot in the third inning.

Lee also demonstrated her ability while away from the plate as she went the distance in game one from the circle, holding the Wasps to two runs on four hits while striking out eight in route to her fifth win of the year.

Freshman Misty Judd (Luray, Va./Luray) notched her team leading sixth win of the year in game two as she kept the Wasp bats at bay for five innings. Judd scattered seven hits over that span while issuing two walks and striking out seven batters.

Samantha Horner was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI in game one while Tuesdee Woods went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in game two for Emory & Henry.

EMU scored all three of their runs in game one in the third inning. An RBI double off the bat of Blosser, scoring Nicole Wade (Madison Heights, Va./Liberty Christian), followed by a two-run shot by Lee to cap the scoring.

Emory & Henry tried to battle back, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh as Horner had an RBI double and later crossed home plate on a wild pitch. Lee settled down to get the next batter on a ground out to third base to ice the win.

In the second game the Lady Royals scored three runs in the first and second innings combined. A three-run home run by Madden in the fourth inning along with five other runs ended up giving EMU a 11-0 lead. Anther four more runs for the visiting team scored in the fifth inning as Lee had her second home run of the day.

Blosser was 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Sophomore outfielder Brittany Caricofe (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Samantha Hammer had two hits in three trips to the plate.
