Eastern Mennonite University pitchers gave up a combined total of three hits in route to a two-game sweep of Sweet Briar College Tuesday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference softball action in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Lady Royals move to 8-12 on the year and stand at 3-7 in the ODAC. The Vixens fall to 3-18 overall, 0-6 in the conference.

Senior infielder Mandee Madden (Winchester, Va./John Handley) went a combined 4-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBI. Sophomore outfielder Jessica Blosser (Crimora, Va./Wilson Memorial) was 5-for-6 with two runs scored and three RBI while freshman pitcher/infielder Lisa Lee (Buckingham, Va./Buckingham Co.) had three hits in five trips to the plate, scoring three runs while driving in one.

Lee picked up her second career collegiate win in game one, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing only one run on one hit while striking out eight. Senior Jamie Fraysher (Waterford, Va./Loudoun Valley) closed out the win with 2 1/3 innings of relief, holding the Vixens to only one hit.

EMU scratched a run across the board in the first inning of game one as Blosser came into score on an RBI single by junior third baseman Nicole Shelton (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Godwin). The Lady Royals put another run up in the third only to have the Vixens answer in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Melissa Viar, her first of the year.

A run in the bottom of the inning plus two more in the sixth gave Fraysher all the leverage she needed, striking out three batters in her two plus innings of work.

Shelton went 1-for-3 in game one with two RBI.

Freshman pitcher Misty Judd (Luray, Va./Luray) followed the spectacular work in the circle by Lee in game one with a gem of her own in game two. Judd struck out the first five batters she faced and kept the Vixen's off the basepaths until Anna Newberg worked a two-out walk in the third inning.

A five spot by the Lady Royals in the second inning gave EMU its first lead of game two as a two-RBI triple by Madden and a two-run bomb over the left-field fence by sophomore infielder Allison Painter (Steeles Tavern, Va./Riverheads) put the Lady Royals ahead. In the bottom of the third the EMU bats again errupted with a four run inning as Madden connected with her first home run of the season, a towering three-run home run over the left-field fence to put the home team up 8-0. Lee crossed home plate with the final run of the inning on a wild pitch to increase the EMU lead to 9-0.

Sweet Briar stuck a run on the board in the top half of the fourth as Viar reached on a walk, stole second base, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch to put the Vixens on the board. Judd maintained control of the contest following the Viar score and got the next batter to pop out to the shortstop to end the inning.

Judd, still working on a no-hitter, retired the first batter in the fifth before Christen Campbell laced a single to right-field to give the Vixens' their first hit of the game. Judd went on to get the next two batters to pick up her team leading fourth win of the year.

Sophomore catcher Dana Hall (Shenandoah, Va./Page Co.) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in game two. Freshman outfielder Rasheeda Crews (Brookneal, Va./William Campbell) scored twice and had a hit in three at-bats.

Judd's line at the end of the game was one run on one hit in five innings pitched, allowing only two free passes while striking out eight.

The Lady Royals will head north to take on the Falcons of Messiah College tomorrow, Wednesday, April 1, at 2:30 p.m., in a non-conference double header.
