A 22-point performance from junior forward Zac White helped to propel Washington & Lee University to a 82-74 win over the Eastern Mennonite University Royals in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's basketball match-up Wednesday night in Harrisonburg, Va.

The win gives the Generals a 9-3 record on the season and a 2-1 mark in the ODAC. EMU drops to 7-4 overall, 3-1 in the conference.

George Johnson (Richmond, Va./Miller School) scored a team leading 18 points for EMU. D.J. Hinson (Newport News, Va./Menchville) added another 13 points while junior guard Austin Twine (Dublin, Va./Pulaski Co.) had 10 points.

Ben Heller scored 15 points off the bench for the Generals. Ben Goetsch and Kirk Jones each registered another 12 points.

W&L shot an even 72 percent from the floor in the first frame (18-of-25) including a 4-for-7 line from three-point land. White had 10 points in the half with three other Generals' scoring six each.

The Generals had a two-point lead to start the game but fell behind as the Royals built up a six-point advantage with 10:28 left to play in the first. During the next seven minutes the Generals countered as an 11-0 run to put the visiting team up by 10. With 3:30 left, EMU got a big three from LeRoger Parrish (Danville, Va./Tunstall) to make the score 43-35 at the end of the half.

In the second half the Generals found themselves struggling from the field as the Royals up-tempo offense and press defense seemed to be wearing on the visiting squad. Washington & Lee shot only 42 percent (12-of-28) from the field in the second half compared to their near perfect play in the first.

EMU took full advantage of the opportunity to claw back into the contest as a double-digit deficit shrank to only four with 6:18 remaining. Isaiah Goodman dropped in both of his free throw attempts on the Generals next possession, keying a 9-0 run by W&L that put them up by 13 (73-60). EMU responded with a 5-0 run thanks to points from Twine and Johnson. Both teams then exchanged baskets for the next two minutes until the 1:18 mark when a Johnson long ball put the Royals down only three (77-74). Unfortunately for the Royals and the 432 fans that filled Yoder Arena that wound up being the last basket of the night for EMU as Washington & Lee scored five unanswered points in the final minute of the game to seal the win.

Parrish finished with nine points off the bench for EMU. Todd Phillips (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) also registered nine points while pulling down five rebounds.

Goodman ended up with nine points and five assists for W&L in the win.

The Royals will look to rebound on the road as they travel to Roanoke, Va., on Saturday, January 10, to take on the Maroons of Roanoke College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
