D.J. Hinson (Newport News, Va./Menchville) tied a career-high with 24 points in the Eastern Mennonite University men's basketball 90-85 win over Emory & Henry College Wednesday night in Emory, Va.

The Royals run their record to 10-6 on the season and 5-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Emory & Henry falls to 7-10 overall, 1-7 in the conference.

Hinson was 4-of-7 from behind the arc against the Wasps while shooting a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. The 6'4" sophomore wing also recorded three blocks and now ranks fourth in the ODAC in that category.

George Johnson (Richmond, Va./Miller School) was 3-of-6 from three-point range in route to an 16-point performance. Todd Phillips (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) came off the bench to tie a career-high with 18 points. Phillips had six rebounds, four assists, and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.

Terrance Grigg notched 22 points in a losing effort for Emory & Henry. Kyle Huckins had 17 points and was 8-of-11 from the field while Camillo Wienz and Josh Brown each registered 11 points.

"Again, we found ourselves down by 15 (points) to start the half but this time we were able to find a way to win," explained head coach Kirby Dean in referencing the Royals loss to Randolph-Macon College last week. "We are doing some good things, but we're a long way from a finished product. We have to improve defensively if we hope to reach our goals for the season."

The win is the first for the Royals against the Wasps since the 2004-05 season. EMU's last win at Emory & Henry College's King Center (Bob Johnson Court) was during the 1989-90 season when coach Dean was a sophomore guard on the men's basketball squad.

The Royals will now get set for cross-town rival Bridgewater College as the Eagles invade Yoder Arena on Saturday, January 24, at 7 p.m.
