Lady Royals Score Big, Sweep First Day of EMU Tournament

13 total goals were scored in two games by the Eastern Mennonite University field hockey team with the Lady Royals going on to beat both Shenandoah University and Wesley College on Saturday, September 6, during the opening round of the EMU Tournament.
The Lady Royals improve to 3-1 overall on the season and are riding a three game winning streak. Shenandoah falls to 0-3, following the evening game against DeSales, while Wesley moved to 2-2 with the loss to EMU. Updated scores and the EMU Tournament schedule can be found

In the first game against Shenandoah the Lady Royals scored early and often in route to a 10-1 decision. EMU put six goals in the back of the cage in the first period with a combined 39 shots by the home team in the game.
Allison Byler (Belleville, Pa./Belleville Mennonite),
Katie Cimini (Cape May, NJ/Middle Township), and
Hailee Rittle (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) each scored a pair of goals for EMU in the win with Rittle adding an assist.
Julie Denlinger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) scored a goal and had two assists.
Sarah Roth (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite), and
Kristina Landis (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock) also notched a score for EMU with freshman
Amy Histand (Perkasie, Pa./Christopher Dock) registering her goal on a penalty stroke.
Shenandoah goalkeeper Chelsea Smith had 13 saves.
In the afternoon game against Wesley, the Lady Royals found themselves tied at two with the Wolverines with about 10 minutes remaining. Denlinger put EMU back on top as she stroked her second goal of the day, and third this season, at the 62:40 mark with the Lady Royal defense handling it from there.
EMU surrendered only seven shots on goal in the second period, nine total for the game.
The home team recorded the first score of the game with 6:19 on the clock as junior
Alyssa Derstine (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock) blasted in her first goal of the game and second on the year. Derstine added another goal, 12 minutes later, to give EMU a 2-0 advantage.
The Wolverines clawed back into the game with two unanswered scores as Shereee Pleasenton and Sam Marconi tied the game at two all. Delinger followed only four minutes after the goal by Marconi to seal the win for EMU.
EMU collected nine penalty corners compared to five for Wesley.
Goalkeeper
Becky Nolt (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) had four saves in the win.
The Lady Royals will host one final game on Sunday, against DeSales University, at 3 p.m., to close out the EMU Tournament.
