Junior Alyssa Derstine (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock) had a hat trick (three goals scored) as the Eastern Mennonite University field hockey team took care of Roanoke College 7-0 Friday night.

The #19 Lady Royals improve to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Roanoke falls to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

EMU out-shot the Maroons 27-6 with Derstine and Julie Denlinger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) each scored multiple goals in the game with Hailee Rittle (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) and Katie Cimini (Cape May, NJ/Middle Township) also notched a score for EMU.

The Lady Royals scored early and often in the first peroid as EMU went up quickly 2-0 after 16 minutes of play. Rittle connected off an assist from Derstine for the first goal with Derstine recording her first score of the game in the 10th minute.

Denlinger capped the scoring in the first period with her sixth goal of the year in the 15th minute.

EMU continued to pour on the offense in the second period as Derstine added two more goals, giving her a team leading 11 for the season. Derstine had also scored three goals last year in a game against Sweet Briar.

Cimini registered her seven goal of 2008 with less than two minutes left in regulation.

Goalkeeper and ODAC Player of the Week Becky Nolt (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) had four saves in the win.

Roanoke keeper Cristina Scichilone had 12 saves.

EMU will head back to Park View for the night before traveling to Elizabethtown to take on the Blue Jays at 3 p.m., on Saturday, September 27.
