Bridgewater College improved to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference following a 3-0 win over the Eastern Mennonite University women's volleyball team Wednesday night.

Game scores were 25-16, 25-23, and 25-13.

EMU drops to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in the ODAC.

Bridgewater was led by junior setter Tricia Davis who collected 30 assists in the three set match.

Erika Dirnegl registered 13 kills with Brittany Wittmer (nine kills) and Katie Baker (seven kills) adding to the BC attack.

EMU had a team leading five kills from freshman outside hitter Tabitha Bowman (Waynesboro, Va./Stuarts Draft).

The Eagles controlled set one from the beginning and looked to take a two set lead over EMU. The Lady Royals had other ideas and used several BC errors to their advantage in taking a 18-15 lead. The Eagles stormed back, getting four straight points, two of which coming on kills by Baker. With the score notted at 19 all, the Eagles put the set away on a kill by Dirnagl.

The third and final set was almost a mirror image of set one as Bridgewater used several EMU errors to their advantage in closing out the game.

"We just didn't perform like we do in practice when working on game situations," commented head coach Steve Benson. "We had some bright spots, and some low spots, but we need to focus on being consistent in game situations."

Nicole Ropp (Iowa City, Ia./Iowa Mennonite) and Monika Burkholder (Linville, Va./Eastern Mennonite) each recorded three kills in the loss.

The women's volleyball team will look for their first ODAC win this coming Saturday, September 20, as they host Roanoke College at 2 p.m.
